Summer Stars events in Clare library branches

12 July 2018

Clare County Library’s annual summer reading programme for children, Summer Stars, continues through July and August with a range of free of charge events for children taking place across the county.

Hosted nationally by Libraries Ireland and locally by Clare County Library, the Summer Stars Reading Adventure runs in all libraries up to the end of Augus.  Children are invited to participate in the annual programme that is statistically proven to help prevent the summer reading slide that occurs when schools close over the months of July and August.

All participants will be given a Summer Stars Reading Card to record and track their own progress to which a reward stamp will be added at the library after each book read. There will be gifts and incentives along the way with a special awards ceremony and Summer Stars certificate presentations for participating children at the end of Summer.

Children and families will also have access to fun reading activities on the Summer Stars website, www.summerstars.ie.  The site has lots of online activities as well as a range of animated ebooks. You will find children’s books discussion boards and interviews with well-known people about their favourite books. There are also helpful tips for reading and recommended titles by age group for children to source at their local library.
