Property Marking Scheme

Clare County Council has purchased a Property Marking Machine, which can punch your EIRCODE or other identifying information onto household or farm property.

Property marking is promoted by Clare County Council as a way of deterring theft. It has proven to be effective in other communities.  Marking identifying information on property also supports An Garda Siochana to reunite lost or stolen items with their owners.

How does it work?

The property marking machine works by engraving the unique identifying information of the property owner on to an item which provides traceability in the event of the item being stolen and recovered. It marks a wide variety of material such as wood, leather, plastic, carbon fibre and metal. Examples of such items that can be marked include:

  • Farm equipment & machinery
  • Trailers
  • Garage and garden tools
  • Power tools
  • Computer and electrical devices
  • Equestrian equipment
  • Golf clubs
  • Musical instrument cases
  • Bicycles

The machine CANNOT be used to stamp items made of GLASS, as glass will shatter.

We will add property marking events to the list below in advance.
