Heritage Week

Heritage Week is part of European Heritage Days, a joint initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Union. In County Clare, the event is co-ordinated by Clare County Council and the Heritage Council with support from the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government.

Heritage Week promotes many heritage attractions and wonderful biodiversity we have in Clare and is a vehicle for conserving and protecting our heritage for future generations. The wide range of events include a range of talks, field trips and exhibitions aimed at encouraging people to take an interest in their local heritage. Numerous guided walks and lectures take place in venues around the county, including local museums and libraries. Many of the events that take place during the week are free and the programme highlights the abundance of great work that is carried out by communities to preserve and promote our natural, built and cultural heritage.

Heritage Week takes place on the last week of August, this is to facilitate families to participate in the various events before children return to school.
