Consultation on Kilkee Town and Village Renewal Scheme project

30 January 2017

Clare County Council has announced an informal public information session on the proposed landscaping scheme and installation of public art pieces at the Carrigaholt Road Roundabout in Kilkee.

The event takes place in Cultúrlann Sweeney Kilkee on Wednesday 8th February from 5.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.

The proposed works at the Carrigaholt Road Roundabout, which are being carried out under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme and overseen by the planning section of Clare County Council, include road and footpath alignment works to improve safety of all users, the commission and installation of a piece of art to act as a focal point, and hard and soft landscaping works.

Clare County Council says the proposed public realm enhancement scheme is being guided by ‘Towards a Better Kilkee’, a town improvement and economic development strategy prepared by Clare County Council and Kilkee Town Council in association with various community groups for the period 2014-2024. The €111,764 project is 85% funded by the Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs and is expected to be completed by mid-2017.

The development is one of four community infrastructure projects in Shannon, Kilkee, Clarecastle and Scarriff benefitting from funding under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme. All projects were identified by Clare County Council in conjunction with elected members in each of Clare’s four municipal districts.
