Preparation of Clare County Heritage Plan 2023-2029

21 July 2023

Closed for submissions
Submission deadline: Monday August 21, 2023

Clare County Council is commencing the preparation of its 4th Clare County Heritage Plan 2023–2029.

The Clare County Heritage Plan sets out the vision and direction for heritage management for the next six years and when complete will represent an agreed plan for the future of Heritage in County Clare.

Public participation at this early stage of the plan-making process is important to ensure that the new Heritage Plan both reflects and responds to public concerns and aspirations, as well as addressing National and Regional heritage strategies and guidelines. Clare County Council is seeking your input in order to establish the priority issues for Heritage in County Clare. We look forward to your valued participation at this stage of the new Plan preparation and at future public consultation stages.

Under the Heritage Act 1995, heritage is defined as including landscape, seascapes, flora, fauna, wildlife habitats, monuments, archaeological objects, architectural heritage, heritage objects, geology, inland waterways, heritage gardens and parks and wrecks.

Why start the new Clare Heritage Plan 2023–2029 now?

The current Clare County Heritage Plan 2023-2029 was adopted in December 2017. The new Clare County Heritage Plan 2023–2029 will take into account details from the Clare County Development Plan 2023-2029 which came into effect in April 2023. The new Heritage Plan will have regard to this County Development Plan and build upon its goals and objectives for Heritage across County Clare.

This initial stage of pre-draft consultation will run until the 21st of August 2023. Following this, a draft Heritage Plan will be produced and will be available for further public consultation and consideration. Clare County Council encourages public participation during the preparation of the new Clare County Heritage Plan 2023-2029.
