Planning Department

We manage the sustainable economic development of our County, planning and managing development proposals, enhancing our built environment,  communities and protecting our heritage and environment, in the interests of the common good. 

The Planning department is divided into three main sections. These are forward planning, development management and enforcement.

Forward planning is responsible for the preparation and implementation of the county development plan and local area plans. Forward planning sets out an overall strategy for the proper planning and sustainable development of all areas.

The development management section is concerned with the day to day operation of the planning system in terms of the processing, assessment and determination of planning applications.

The enforcement section ensuring compliance with the planning code. Its activities benefit the majority of people living in Clare, in terms of minimising the adverse impacts of non-compliance with the planning code and unauthorised development.

This department is part of the Economic development directorate .
