Minutes of AGM 2025 of West Clare Municipal District

The Cathaoirleach, Cllr Rita McInerney presided

Cllr. McInerney began the meeting by saying that it has been an honour to serve the people of the Kilrush and Ennistymon electoral areas and to lead this District with pride, purpose during her term as Cathaoirleach.  She thanked her fellow Councillors for their commitment, collaboration and constructive debate which had been a cornerstone of the progress we have made together in delivering improvements in roads and public amenities, supporting local businesses, or advancing projects that enhance our villages and towns.    She also expressed her thanks to the staff in both Kilrush, Ennistymon and Ennis who she said keep the wheels of local government turning and are a critical part of the connection between the Council and our communities. 

Item 1: Election of Cathaoirleach for 12 months

Cllr. Gabriel Keating proposed Cllr. Bill Slattery for position as Cathaoirleach.  This was seconded by Cllr. Shane Talty.

Cllr. Slattery took the Chair.  He thanked his fellow Councillors for placing their trust in him and said it was an honour and a privilege to be chosen by your colleagues to represent them and the West Clare Municipal District .  He paid tribute to his predecessor  Cllr McInerney for her dedication and diligence.  He welcomed newly appointed Chief Executive Gordon Daly and said he looked forward to working well with him and his staff during his term.

Item 2: Election of Leas Cathaoirleach for 12 months

Cllr. Rita McInerney proposed Cllr. Michael Shannon for position as Leas Cathaoirleach.  This was seconded by Cllr. Joe Garrihy.

Item 3: Approval for payment of allowance to Cathaoirleach of Municipal District

It was proposed by Cllr Joe Killeen and seconded by Cllr. Michael Shannon and agreed  to defer this item to the July meeting.

Item 4: .  Review nominations for the the Grant Funding Working Group

The members agreed to defer this item for further discussion at the July meeting.

Item 5: Fix Date of next Meeting and agree Scheule of Meetings - 

It was  agreed to hold the July meeting on Tuesday 15th July at 3pm.   The schedule of Meetings for the reminder of the term will be agreed at the July meeting.
