Pneuma - Exhibitioin by Jackie McGrath
Clare Arts Office in conjunction with Cultúrlann Sweeney Library Gallery is delighted to present ‘Pneuma” an exhibition by Jackie McGrath.
Jackie Mc Grath is a socially engaged visual artist. She has a degree in Sculpture & Combined Media, an MA in Social Practice and the Creative Space and is currently in her second year of an Art Research PHD. She has had art exhibitions in Kilkee, Scariff, Ennistymon, Ennis, Limerick, Mayo and Waterford Her work is about our physical and spiritual embodiment within nature and our oceans. Within her work she speaks of rituals and connections, of being immersed within nature. Our landscapes have power over our perceptions of time and self. Through Jackie’s medium of photography, drawing and film she will draw the viewer into different worlds. The aim of her art practice is to examine how belief systems shape ideas about the nature of being and our existence within the world, and how a ‘fluid narrative‘ can shift our approach from the existing infrastructures that dominate the way we relate to our planet.

This exhibition is made up of photographic images of our surrounding world, of different places and different moments, it opens up narratives about where our place in society is and how we live our daily lives on this planet of ours.
The title of the exhibition is “Pneuma” - Pneuma is an ancient Greek word that has no equivalent in contemporary terms. Commonly translated as soul or spirit, it refers as well to breath, and was conceived as an underlying essence or life force that runs through nature and animates or illuminates them with Mind.
