2020 Artists Bursaries

9 April 2020

The Arts Office of Clare County Council has announced a deadline extension for two bursaries for Clare artists.

The first bursary enables an artist, of any discipline, to receive an all expenses covered period at the magnificent Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig, Co. Monaghan. This artists retreat, bequeathed to the State by Tyrone Guthrie, offers space, time and creative connections to artists to create new work, inspired by the beautiful surroundings.

Last year singer and musician, Aoife Doyle and playwright John O’Donovan, received an opportunity to stay at the internationally renowned residential workplace. John spent time creating new work following on from the success of his play Flights, performed in glór, earlier this year. Aoife used her time preparing for her new album due to be launched later this year.

Clare’s longstanding tradition of amateur drama is also recognised with the awarding of a bursary to an amateur drama practitioner to enable them to attend the Drame League of Ireland’s Summer School in the University of  Limerick  this summer.  This is the 55th year of the summer school, where some of the best national and international drama practitioners deliver workshops and masterclasses.

‘In recognition of difficulties that artists currently have, we are extending the bursary deadline and facilitating applications by post or email this year’ said Siobhán Mulcahy, County Arts Officer. ‘We hope that in this way we can support artists in making the best proposals possible to us’.

The deadline for artists wishing  to join the Artist in Schools panel has also been extended to May 1st, 2020.

The closing date for applications is Friday, May 1st, 2020 and applications can be returned to arts@clarecoco.ie or to the County Arts Office, County Library, Mill Road, Ennis, Co.Clare.
