National Tree Week 2020 -21st March to 27th March 2020

11 February 2020

In conjunction with the Tree Council of Ireland and Coillte, Clare County Council are making young native trees available FREE to Community Groups for planting in public open spaces.

Trees

Karen Foley, Environmental Awareness Officer, explains, ”Tree planting is a simple and effective way of tackling climate change. Excess carbon dioxide is building up in our atmosphere, contributing to climate change. As trees grow they absorb this carbon dioxide, remove and store the carbon and release oxygen back into the air. When local communities plant trees they can help to reduce the impacts of climate change both in their local area and around the world”.

The group must undertake to plant these native trees in a suitable location, in its own locality during National Tree Week. If you wish, please tag us on facebook and twitter on any events, including tree planting, you may have for tree week using #greenerclare #PromotingAGreenerClare

Number of trees available to groups will be based on overall demand.

Trees will be made available on a first come first serve basis at the Gardening Section, Cois na hAbhna on:

  • Monday 23rd March and Tuesday 24th March 2020 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

It will be necessary to have a trailer to transport trees.
