Oil spill

Clare County Council is a member of SEA-PT Ltd., the Shannon Estuary Anti-Pollution Team based at Shannon Port, Foynes. Other members include local authorities and private industries and bodies who are located along the Shannon Estuary. A committee comprising of members of SEA-PT was formed whose purpose is to provide a unified response to oil pollution in the Shannon Estuary and nearby coast. A large reserve of equipment at Foyes and guaranteed assistance from the Irish Coast Guard ensures an organised response in the unfortunate event of a major oil spill based on current information at the time regarding wind speed and direction, tides, time and location of the spill and the composition of the oil product.
