Clare County Heritage Plan 2024-2030

Introduction

The Clare County Heritage Plan 2024-2030 is the fourth Clare Heritage Plan. The plan outlines Clare County Council's commitment to safeguarding and enhancing the county's rich heritage over the next six years. This plan, the fourth of its kind, has been developed in response to the evolving challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss, and aims to build on the successes of previous plans. The Heritage Plan was formulated with extensive input from the Clare Heritage and Biodiversity Forum, local communities, stakeholders, and the general public through a series of consultations and public events.

Key themes and objectives

The Heritage Plan focuses on several key areas, each designed to address specific aspects of heritage conservation and promotion:

  1. Collaborations and Connections: Enhancing community involvement through partnerships and embracing digital innovations to protect and celebrate Clare's heritage.
  2. Sustaining and Integrating: Integrating sustainable tourism with heritage conservation to leverage Clare's cultural assets for economic growth.
  3. Capturing and Sharing: Promoting inclusivity and community participation in heritage activities to improve quality of life and well-being.
  4. Educating and Inspiring: Providing tools and knowledge to communities to build resilience against climate change and engage youth in heritage activities.

Plan framework

The Heritage Plan is structured around a clear vision, key focus areas, and actionable outcomes:

  • Vision 2030: To inspire and guide efforts towards achieving a cohesive and sustainable heritage strategy for Clare by 2030.
  • Key Focus Areas: These include "It's How You Tell Them," "Looking Back / Moving Forward," "Life is for Living," "Changing Times," "Sounds Wonderful," "Keeping Track," "Light the Spark See the Light," and "Working Together for Sustainable Heritage."
  • Actions and Outcomes: Specific initiatives and expected results are outlined to ensure measurable progress in heritage conservation, public engagement, and community resilience.

Implementation and monitoring

The implementation of the Heritage Plan will be monitored through regular evaluations and will leverage funding opportunities to support various heritage projects. This structured approach ensures that all actions are aligned with the overarching goals of preserving and promoting Clare's heritage while adapting to contemporary challenges.
