Mountshannon freshwater bathing

Mountshannon is situated around a series of three small piers to the east and adjacent to the main south-facing harbour. There is an area of swamp vegetation along the shore. There is a slow and gradual deepening of the water and the mean depth overall of the water in Lough Derg has been estimated to be 7.6m. Activities include bathing, boating, angling and wind-surfing.
Please bring your litter home at the end of your visit to Mountshannonr.
Under the Litter Pollution Acts 1997-2003, dog-owners are required to clean up after their animals if it fouls in a public place such as public roads, footpaths, parks and beaches. Failure to do so can result in an on-the-spot fine of €150.
Beach bye-laws are in place with horse riding and dogs prohibited between 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. during the summer season.
Motorised watercraft, surfing and the use of canoes and kayaks is prohibited in close proximity to swimmers.
